Nautor Swan, one of the most respected names in world sailing, chose Cannes to present the Swan 80, the model that opens the Swan Maxi range. The launch comes in a symbolic year: the Finnish yard, founded in 1966 in the town of Pietarsaari, turns 60 in 2026.
The Swan 80's idea fits in one sentence: deliver the volume, presence and offshore capability of a much larger yacht, but in a more versatile, easier-to-operate format. The boat measures just under 24 metres, and that is no small detail. By staying just below that mark, the Swan 80 makes the most of the advantages of its size and avoids the regulatory requirements that apply to boats over 24 metres, a balance that combines performance freedom, operational simplicity and confidence for long passages.
Heritage: the evolution of the Swan 78
The Swan 80 is the direct evolution of the Swan 78, one of the yard's biggest recent successes. The reference is a strong one: of the 10 Swan 78s sold, not a single owner asked for modifications to the design, which says a lot about how right the original model was.
The new boat also draws on the historic lineage of ocean-going Swan 80s, sailing yachts that over the decades have cruised, raced and circumnavigated the world. The idea is to combine that tradition with a new generation that translates maxi-yacht capability into a more owner-friendly format.
Design: the signature of three names
The Swan 80 brings together the work of three professionals who already define the Maxi line's identity: naval architect Germán Frers, responsible for the concept and naval architecture, designer Lucio Micheletti, author of the exterior style, and designer Misa Poggi, in charge of the interiors.
The result carries the unmistakable silhouette of Swan's maxis, already seen on the 88, 108 and 128, now concentrated in a more agile format. Clean volumes, a low-profile coachroof and a long, uninterrupted deck give the boat a sense of motion even at rest.
A hull and deck built for open water
True to Swan's offshore tradition, the hull was designed to inspire confidence at sea, whether on long passages or fast-reaching in the Mediterranean. There are twin rudders, which ensure control and precision when the boat heels, a refined bow entry and powerful aft sections, a combination that seeks a balance between speed, stability and comfort.
Construction uses foam-cored glass-fibre reinforced epoxy with carbon-fibre reinforcements. Safety shows in the details: the rudder tips are sacrificial, the rudder stocks sit in sealed compartments to reduce the consequences of a collision with a submerged object, and there are several keel options, including deep fixed, shallow and a telescopic lifting version.
On deck, the teak runs almost seamlessly from the cockpit to the stern. The twin helm stations define the sailing experience, and the cockpit transforms with ease, from a protected cruising lounge to an open racing space or a social terrace. At anchor, the transom opens into a beach platform, with access to the swimming area and the tender garage.
A flexible interior
Below deck, the watchword is flexibility. The first hull's configuration has a forward master suite, a forward VIP cabin and two aft guest cabins, plus a crew area with independent access to preserve privacy on board.
Technical areas are integrated beneath the saloon sole, which increases volume and keeps the space uncluttered. The saloon follows the Maxi philosophy: expansive, fluid and transformable, with a lounging area, TV and dining space. One of the guest cabins can become a media room or a second dining area, depending on how the boat is used.
Launched in Finland, premiering in Cannes
The first Swan 80 is already in the water. The boat was launched in Pietarsaari, Finland, in a traditional Finnish ceremony, and now makes its world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival.
After the French show, the yacht will make its sailing debut at the Rolex Swan Cup, the regatta held in Porto Cervo that this year celebrates the yard's 60th anniversary, gathering much of the Swan fleet.
Founded in 1966, Nautor Swan has built more than 2,350 sailing yachts over five decades, in sizes ranging from 28 to 131 feet. Today the brand is divided into several lines, and the Swan 80 opens the Maxi family, alongside the 88, 98, 108 and 128. More than a new boat, the yard defines the 80 as a starting point: the gateway to the world of Swan's maxis.
