Among the new arrivals Nautor Swan brought to the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival is the Swan 73, a sailing yacht that marks the Finnish yard's return to the 22-metre segment for the first time in two decades. The announcement is part of a series of launches with which the brand is celebrating its 60th anniversary, reached in 2026.
Positioned just below the maxi-yacht segment, the Swan 73 promises comfort comparable to that of larger boats, with the advantage of being easier to handle and more versatile. It is built at Nautor's historic Boatbuilding Technology Centre (BTC) in Pietarsaari, Finland, the same one that produces the Swan and Maxi Swan ranges.
A boat for those who refuse to choose
The Swan 73 is designed for the owner who refuses to choose between two worlds. One day it offers the serenity of a secluded anchorage, expansive deck spaces and light-filled interiors. The next, the thrill of performance sailing, precise trimming and speeds above 20 knots. It is a boat that, the yard says, adapts to the owner's wishes, whether defined by silence or adrenaline.
The project also fits a new chapter for the brand. Nautor Swan's product-development arm is described in the official material as one of the pillars of Sanlorenzo's growth strategy, the Italian group that has taken control of the Finnish yard. It is that structure that helps guide the brand's new generation of boats.
Design: the continuity of a partnership
The Swan 73 has naval architecture by Germán Frers, in a collaboration with Nautor Swan that already spans more than four decades. The hull is a vinylester-infused fibreglass laminate with sandwich structures and local carbon-fibre reinforcements in the hull and deck.
The hull lines are slim and efficient, the proportions balanced and powerful, and the sail plan was designed to give response and control in any condition. The result, the yard says, is a boat that feels fast, stable and instinctive at the helm.
The exterior styling is by Luca Ardizio Design, following a path of evolution rather than disruption in relation to the brand's elegant identity. "From the earliest sketches, the intention with Luca Ardizio was to create exterior lines that reflect the purity of Germán Frers's hulls," explains Antonio Santella, Nautor Swan's New Product Development senior advisor.
A deck divided into four areas
The Swan 73's big novelty is on deck, with an asymmetrical design meant to enhance life on board, especially at anchor. Among the solutions are an offset companionway, an asymmetrical cockpit and running rigging integrated into the deck, all to make movement more fluid.
The deck is divided into four distinct areas. Forward, a private sunbathing lounge, which can gain an elegant Arabian-style tent and even accommodate a large tender. At the heart of the boat is the guest cockpit, a sheltered space that connects the interior to the exterior and which, as an option, gains a rigid roof that can turn it into a panoramic veranda or a fully enclosed and climate-controlled space, a kind of nautical winter garden.
Further aft comes the sailing cockpit, dedicated to performance, with the twin helms, winches and control systems arranged for short-handed sailing. And at the stern, the beach club area, with a swimming platform that can be extended to order and a lazarette able to house a 2.80-metre rigid-hull RIB and equipment.
A contemporary interior, in the water in 2027
Inside, the layout is highly flexible, with the galley and crew area aft, to port, and options of three or four guest cabins. Forward, the arrangements allow a choice between an expanded owner's bathroom or a walk-in wardrobe, ensuring privacy and acoustic separation from the technical areas.
The interiors are by Blend Studio, which reinterpreted the brand's language in a contemporary key. "The project draws on the heritage of Swan yachts, reimagined through a contemporary lens, with soft transitions, curved geometries and a harmonious flow," sums up the studio's founder, Cecilia Perotti. Alongside the house décor options, named Spirit of Finland, Timeless Classic, Traditional Navy and Wine Cowes, a bespoke configuration was created using Canaletto walnut, which gives the space depth.
At 22.47 metres of hull length and a 6.12-metre beam, the Swan 73 is already under construction in Pietarsaari and is due to touch the water in 2027.
