Salvador hosts the first Northeast Blue Economy Summit and puts the sea at the centre of the economic debate

For the first time, Brazil's Northeast will have a major gathering dedicated exclusively to the ocean economy. On 18 and 19 August, the Port of Salvador hosts the Northeast Blue Economy Summit, an event that sets out to show, with data and with sector names, the size of the ocean's economic potential for Bahia and for the country.

The chosen theme sums up the ambition of the meeting well: "From Land to Port: Bahia exports wealth to the world." The idea is to look at the entire chain that links the productive interior to the sea, passing through port logistics, foreign trade and the job creation tied to maritime activities.

A keynote lecture and seven panels

The programme combines a keynote lecture with seven thematic panels. The debates should cover some of the sector's most strategic subjects, such as port logistics, foreign trade, the naval industry, offshore, nautical tourism, innovation, science, sustainability, ocean culture, water sports and territorial development.

By bringing these themes under one roof, the summit attempts to do what the sector needs most: connect those who produce, those who operate, those who research and those who decide. A good part of the ocean economy's opportunities is lost precisely because these worlds rarely sit at the same table.
