Brazil will have representatives at two of the main Olympic sailing world championships over the coming weeks. Between Sunday and 12 September, Brazilian sailors will compete at the World Championships of the ILCA classes, in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland, and iQFOiL, in Weymouth, England. Among the names are Mateus Isaac, Valentina Roma Victor de Araújo and Gustavo Kiessling, members of the Olympic Sailing Team Project run by Instituto Bons Ventos with sponsorship from Grupo Energisa, Icatu Vanguarda and OceanPact.
The first outing is the ILCA World Championship, from 23 to 30 August. The event will bring together athletes from dozens of countries in the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes, both part of the Olympic programme. In the women's fleet, Brazil will have Valentina Roma Victor de Araújo and Ana Carolina Roth. In the men's, alongside Gustavo Kiessling, Antonio Rosa, Philipp Grochtmann, Mathias Reimer and Frederico Francavilla will be on the water.
Valentina Roma Victor de Araújo, 17, represents Cabanga Iate Clube in Pernambuco and is working through a run of international events in 2026. Before the senior ILCA 6 Worlds, she contested the class's Junior Worlds in Denmark. The international programme is part of her build-up to the Youth Worlds, set for December in Portugal.
In the ILCA 7, Gustavo Kiessling is also part of the Olympic Sailing Team Project. He arrives in Ireland after a period of preparation in Brazil, with training in Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre. The Worlds will be another stage in the athlete's international season.
Next on the calendar, Mateus Isaac will contest the iQFOiL World Championship, scheduled for 4 to 12 September in Weymouth, England. Brazil will also have Guilherme Plentz in the windsurfing event. A member of the Olympic Sailing Team Project, Mateus Isaac continues his preparation within the cycle towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The two World Championships continue Brazilian participation in the main international events of the Olympic classes in 2026. In the first half of the year, the country took fourth and sixth place at the Formula Kite World Championship in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. Both members of the Olympic Sailing Team Project, Lucas Fonseca finished fourth while Bruno Lobo was sixth in a competition that gathered 90 athletes.
The Brazilian Sailing Confederation (CBVela) will follow the delegation's performance at the ILCA and iQFOiL Worlds. The events are part of the classes' international calendar and bring together some of the leading sailors active in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.
The Olympic Sailing Team Project aims to contribute to the technical preparation of Brazilian athletes within the Olympic cycle. The team supported by Instituto Bons Ventos is made up of Bruno Lobo and Lucas Fonseca, in Formula Kite; Mateus Isaac, in iQFOiL; Bernardo Peixoto and Marina Arndt, in the Nacra 17; Valentina Roma Victor de Araújo, in the ILCA 6; and Gustavo Kiessling, in the ILCA 7.
Instituto Bons Ventos runs the project with sponsorship from Grupo Energisa, Icatu Vanguarda and OceanPact. It is made possible through the Federal Sports Incentive Law, a mechanism that allows companies to direct part of their taxes to support sporting projects in Brazil.
