GX42 hits the water in Türkiye and takes to the Monaco Yacht Show a promise of 48 hours at anchor without a generator

The first superyacht from GX Superyachts, the brand created by the Greenline Yachts team, the 42-metre boat combines a parallel diesel-electric hybrid, integrated solar panels and a lithium battery bank. The world debut comes in September in Monaco, where the project was shown as a concept two years ago.

The first hull of the GX42 has left the shed and entered the water at the SES Yachts yard in Türkiye. The 42-metre superyacht is the debut model from GX Superyachts, a brand that appeared as a concept at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show and returns to the same event this September, this time with the boat finished.

Two years passed between one and the other. That is a short interval for a project of this size, and it helps explain why the launch drew attention in the segment.

What sits below deck

The GX42's technical argument is not its length, it is the propulsion and energy system.

The boat uses a parallel diesel-electric hybrid, an arrangement in which the combustion engine and the electric motor can work together or separately on the same shaft. Added to that are solar panels integrated into the superstructure, rather than simply mounted on top of it, and a large-capacity lithium battery bank.

The manufacturer puts two figures on the table, and both speak of operation rather than performance:

Zero-emissions mode at anchorup to 48 hours
Reduction in onboard electricity consumptionup to 45%

The 48 hours at anchor without running a generator is the number that matters most to anyone operating a large boat. A generator running all night means noise, vibration, fuel and maintenance, and it is the main reason anchoring on a superyacht is rarely quiet. Removing that for two days changes life on board and cuts operating cost in the same move.

Where the technology comes from

GX Superyachts is not a newcomer to the subject. The brand was created by the team behind Greenline Yachts, which has been working with parallel hybrid propulsion in recreational boats for more than 15 years.

What the GX42 does is carry into the 40-metre bracket an architecture the company had already been practising on smaller craft. It is a different route from the usual one in this segment, where hybrid systems tend to trickle down from the very largest yachts rather than move up from series production.

"Two years ago we introduced a bold new vision for the future of superyachting in Monaco. Seeing the first GX42 enter the water proves that this vision has become reality," said Vladimir Zinchenko, the yard's owner.

For Maurizio Magri, chief commercial officer at GX Superyachts, the project's axis is wellbeing on board. "By reducing reliance on generators, the GX42 lowers operational emissions and fuel consumption while enhancing onboard comfort. Ultimately, this is about more than technology; it is about well-being," he said.

Italian signature, Turkish construction

The exterior and the interior are by Marco Casali, founder of the Italian studio Too Design, who worked with clean architectural lines, natural materials and continuity between spaces.

"Our ambition was to create a yacht that feels timeless rather than fashionable, where sustainability and elegance naturally complement one another," said Casali.

Construction fell to SES Yachts, a Turkish yard run by a family now in its third generation. "Building a vessel of such exceptional technical contents and advanced hybrid complexity was a natural evolution of our core values," said Elif Yıldırım, managing partner at the yard.

Technical oversight was handled by Andrea Armas, of Specialist Marine, who spent the last three years inside the yard supervising design, engineering and production on behalf of GX Superyachts.

What comes next

The boat now enters final outfitting and sea trials before heading for Monaco. The world debut takes place at the Monaco Yacht Show, from 23 to 26 September 2026, at Port Hercule.

The GX42 is the first in a range the brand plans between 24 and 56 metres, all in aluminium and built to order.
